Passengers
on the Light Rail Train in Edmonton, Alberta, could not
believe their eyes. On the adjoining Canadian National Rail
(CNR) line, a bright, shiny vacuum truck atop train wheels
was rolling along the tracks as though it belonged there. It
does.
IVIS Ltd. of Edmonton operates the vehicle, identified
like any respectable piece of rolling stock by a number –
99. Chad A. Eaton, 26, general manager and son of company
founder Dolores Eaton, built Number 99, named for hockey
star Wayne Gretzky, who wore that number for the Edmonton
Oilers. Number 99 is just one example of the innovative
approach to business taken by IVIS.
Dolores Eaton founded
the company in 1996 as Incredible Video Inspection Services,
but changed the name as the firm branched out into new
areas. Today, IVIS inspects sewer lines, relines catch
basins and manholes, does GPS mapping, cleans grease traps
and sumps, hydroexcavates and hydrovacuums, locates buried
utilities, replaces sewer and water lines, controls roots in
sewers, and cleans sewer drains and catch basins.
