Cutter Operator


Job Description

The cutter operator is responsible for video inspection and robotic equipment deployment to reinstate lateral lines to main line service after CIPP has been cured and set. 

 Typical Duties

  • Safety is priority one for IVIS and its employees – all operators must comply with all government and corporate safety procedures; must attend all safety meetings
  • Conduct pre and post installation video inspections; set-up and operate CCTV camera (robotic equipment) and associated software to fully inspect main line pipe conditions
  • Provide an accurate description of pipe condition and highlight any issues that may interfere with CIPP installation
  • Safely and appropriately deploy robotic and camera equipment to monitor and reinstate lateral lines to renewed main lines (service lines are located via coordinated measurement and holes are mechanically cut into cured relined pipe)
  • Communicate with customer/project manager prior to commencing work to diagnose job and design best action course and follow up to discuss findings and recommendations
  • Provide leadership to crew members regarding reinstatement of lateral lines and direct labourers as needed
  • Provide leadership to labourers and flusher truck operators regarding task delegation (flushing needs), follow up and completion of project work
  • Ensure fellow employees complete assigned tasks to IVIS and industry standards
  • Maintain all equipment in good operating condition by adjusting, cleaning, lubricating, storing and performing minor repairs as required
  • Conduct pre and post trip inspections, hazard assessments, equipment checks and report all deficiencies to supervisors immediately
  • Completes appropriate quality control, assigned paperwork and safety checks
  • Communicate equipment deficiencies and/or  needs to Reline Manager that will make role more efficient or effective
  • Abide by and act in accordance with all company policies, operating and training procedures as outlined in the employee manual
  • Provide excellent standards of customer service to maintain positive company image and ensure satisfaction with reinstated lines
  • Assist with training and provide guidance to apprentices and other operators (up to 20 hours per week)


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities 

Candidate must possess a valid Class 5 driver’s license

Current CSTS certification

Confined Spaces and H2S ticket are definite assets

Drive cube van (or similar sized vehicle)

Mechanically inclined to trouble shoot minor equipment repairs

Strong computer skills


Training and Experience

Operate CCTV camera, crawler and cables

Operate CCTV software programs (Pipe Tech and Flexidata)

NASSCO certification as asset

Knowledge of CCTV coding practices

Operate external computer hardware (i.e. hard drives, USB)
