Boiler Operator 

 Job Description

This work involves the operation of specialized high pressure equipment to aid in the inversion and curing process for rehabilitative pipe installation.  The boiler operator is responsible for monitoring and logging the temperatures and pressures that result in a safe cured in place pipe installation.  During the course of the installation, the boiler operator will adjust equipment as required to balance pressures, temerpatures and water consumption. During the course of the installation, the incumbent must communicate with other operators on the crew.  This position is also responsible for the maintenance of boiler truck equipment to ensure optimum performance.   

Typical Duties 

  • Safety is priority one for IVIS and its employees- all operators must comply with all government and corporate safety procedures; must attend all safety meetings
  • Responsible to safely operate pressurized air to invert CIPP liner into designated pipe
  • Responsible to safely use steam pressure Hotsy to cure CIPP liner to host pipe
  • Required to monitor boiler temperatures, pressure levels and water consumtion to ensure safe and optimal operation of unit to IVIS standards
  • Supervise and direct labourers during the inversion and curing process
  • Work with all reline crew members to ensure successful installation of CIPP
  • Conduct pre and post trip inspections, hazard assessments and report all deficiencies to supervisors immediately
  • Completes appropriate quality control, assigned paperwork and safety checks
  • Maintain all equipment in good operating condition by adjusting, cleaning, lubricating, storing and preforming minor repairs as required
  • Provide excellent standards of customer service to maintain a positive company image and ensure customer satisfaction with recieved service
  • Communicate equipment deficiencies and/or needs to Reline Foreman that will make the role more efficient or effective
  • Abide by and act in accordance with all company policies, operating and training procedures as outlined in the employee manual
  •   Responsible for operating company vehicles in a professional and appropriate manner (driving to and from site, refueling, re-stocking supplies) 
  • Maintain positive customer relations
  • Assist with training and provide guidance to apprentices and other operators (up to 44 hours per week)

Knowledge, Abilities and Skills 

  • Knowledge of the standard methods, materials, tools, equipment and procedures utilized to install and cure CIPP pipe
  • Knowledge of occupational hazards and dafety precautions which are applicable to the work
  • Ability to operate front reel pressure hose - up to 3000 psi and steam pressure Hotsy
  • Ability to complete applicable reports, records and related administartive tasks
  • Ability to communicate effectively with members of the public, staff and others who are involved in the CIPP installation process
  • Ability to withstand strenuous physical activity inherent in the work performed, as well as to function effectively outside in a variety of weather conditions

 

Required Training and Experience 

  • Completion of Grade 12 or GED (or equivalent combination of training and experience)
  • Candidate must possess a valid Clas 3 driver's license, with a clean Driver's Abstract
  • Current CSTS, H2S and Confined Spaces certifications are an asset
  • Drive VAC CON truck
  • Operate front reel high pressure flushing hose - up to 3000 psi
  • Operate steam pressure Hotsy

 

Working Conditions 

Standing - 80% of time

Walking - 10% of time

Sitting - 10% of time

Majority of work takes place on-site 

Physical Demands 

  • Lift and carry up to 50 lbs
  • Be able to climb, bend, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl
  • Reach and handle hoses, rods and reels
  • Clearly hear orders given in a noisy environments

Hours 

44 hours per week plus overtime as required
